Appraisals at JF Jones Jewelers
Due to high demand at this time, we are offering insurance appraisals exclusively for items purchased from JF Jones Jewelers or pieces that are being custom designed or redesigned in our studio. This ensures the highest level of accuracy, documentation, and service for every item we evaluate.
All appraisals are completed by our third-generation owner, Brittany Jones, GIA Graduate Gemologist and Certified Member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers.
Brittany was raised in the business, learning from her late father, Leonard Jones, who was trained by his father, Joseph F. Jones. She combines time-honored, old-world techniques with modern gemological technology to provide a thorough and precise evaluation of your jewelry.
Our in-house gemological laboratory is fully equipped to identify gemstones and accurately distinguish between natural and lab-grown diamonds.
What is a Jewelry Appraisal?
A jewelry appraisal is a professional document that assigns a value to your item as of a specific date. At JF Jones Jewelers, our appraisals are prepared specifically for insurance replacement purposes, ensuring your piece is properly documented and protected.
Please bring any relevant documentation, including prior appraisals, original receipts, and laboratory reports.
Written Appraisals
Our appraisal services are designed to support insurance coverage and ensure your jewelry is accurately represented in the event of loss, damage, or theft.
Items must be left with us for evaluation. During this time, our team will carefully examine your jewelry for condition and structural integrity, noting details such as loose or chipped stones, worn prongs, thinning metal, cracks, or other concerns.
Because condition is documented in the appraisal, it’s important to address any necessary repairs beforehand. Insurance companies may decline coverage on items with existing damage. We are happy to provide repair estimates and complete any work prior to finalizing your appraisal to ensure a seamless process.
Each item is meticulously documented, including measurements, weights, identifying marks, and a detailed description. You will receive a receipt along with a photograph of your item at intake. All pieces remain fully insured and securely stored in our safe throughout the process.
Our standard turnaround is 1-2 weeks.
What You’ll Receive
Our comprehensive written appraisals are a minimum of 13 pages per item and include:
Detailed gemological and structural analysis

You may choose to receive your appraisal as a digital PDF or a printed copy with a raised seal.
A complimentary light cleaning is included. Additional services such as polishing, refinishing, restoration cleaning, or rhodium plating are available for an additional fee.
Pricing begins at $180 per item.

Pearls
Differentiating natural pearls from cultured pearls requires advanced lab testing, including the use of X-ray technology. Thus, we do not offer pearl appraising services unless you have previous documentation (receipt, appraisal or lab report.)
Pearls are highly sensitive to personal factors such as sweat, acidic skin, perfume, and cosmetics, which can gradually deteriorate the layers of nacre and diminish their value. Due to these reasons, there is limited demand in the secondary market for used pearls. We do not purchase any pearls. Our Buying Event is however interested in Mikimoto Branded pearls.
